ENGLEWOOD, Colo – The Broncos have promoted Chris Beake to Defensive Pass Game Specialist, the team announced on Friday
Beake, who served as a defense assistant in 2020, will begin his ninth season with the Broncos in 2021. He joined the team in February 2013 and has worked with the team for four different head coaches during his tenure
He worked as a defensive quality control coach in 2013 before being promoted to defensive assistant in 2014.He served in this role for the next two years before serving as defensive assistant / defensive coach from 2016-18 for the last two seasons a defensive assistant role back
During his time in Denver, the Broncos defense featured eight players with a total of 20 Pro Bowl selections.Beake was working with the Broncos’ outside linebackers in 2018 when Von Miller received his seventh Pro Bowl nod and Bradley Chubb a franchise Rookie sack record set
He took on a bigger role in 2020 when Defensive Coordinator Ed Donatell battled COVID-19 outside of the UCHealth Training Center
“They did extra work when I couldn’t be physically on the field,” Donatell said of Beake and former defensive coach Renaldo Hill. “I was almost always involved most of the time and they were top notch. They have been exceptional their commitment and functioning “
Donatell said he could “go on different levels” as coaches for Beake and Hill as he recovered from the virus
Justin Simmons, who made his first Pro Bowl career in 2020, also said Beake “did a great job” and “did a great job” in Donatell’s absence
Beake, who is 23rd Will contest season in the NFL, moved to the Broncos after positions with the 49ers (1999-2003, 2010), Falcons (2004-06), Seahawks (2008-09) and Browns (2011-12)
In Atlanta, where he served as the team’s linebacker coach, he was teaching all-pro Keith Brooking, who earned two Pro Bowl nods while at Beake
He also worked as a defensive graduate assistant at the US. The Air Force Academy began his career in 1994
Beake, who has coaching experience on both sides of football, also played quarterback in the Air Force from 1990 to 1992. From 1995 to 1998 he worked as a civil engineer in the Air Force before returning to coaching in 1999
Beake comes from a football family, as his father John was long-time general manager of the Broncos from 1984 to 1998
In 2021, Chris Beake will continue his own career with the Broncos in an elevated role
