Mean Girls’ writer Tina Fey has come under fire for an anti-Asian joke after a clip from the movie went viral

A video is making the rounds on TikTok and shows the moment when characters Trang Pak (Ky Pham) and Sun Jin Dinh (Danielle Nguyen) argued over their PE teacher

In the scene from the 2004 film, a translation reads, “N **** please,” with the TikTok voice asking, “Sorry, who came up with the idea to put this in the script?”

A user named Bsidebui shared it on his own page and said to the camera, “I’m so glad it showed up on my For You page because it reminded me how much I don’t like Tina Fey because they consistently disregard the Asian community

“Did you notice that she always has Asian characters in her comedy? They’re always FOBs, they speak broken English, they always have accents

“In the Mean Girls clip I embroidered, the translation was” N-word please ” In other translations they said the girl said “B-word please” when she didn’t say that at all. She said, “Come on, please”That was the direct translation

“But they mistranslated it, betting that the audience wouldn’t know the actual translation just because of the shock factor”The jokes aren’t even right and she doesn’t care. I mean, she named her character Trang Pak, which isn’t even an accurate name because it’s half a Korean and a half Vietnamese name

“And then she lets the Vietnamese high school girl make out with the trainer, which is basically pedophilia”

In a second video, he also talked about Tina’s other projects, including her 2015 film Sisters and the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

He continued about sisters: “She also had Korean nail salon workers who spoke broken English. Would you like another example? In Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt she casts a Korean to play a Vietnamese refugee

“And the problem I have with that is that he had to speak Vietnamese for his lines. He also needed a Vietnamese accent, which he slaughtered both of them because he is Korean

“The worst part is that she called him Dong. And there is a running joke where his name means penis in English She even makes him say a joke, “Oh Kimmy means penis in Vietnamese,” which it doesn’t, but she doesn’t even want to be right

“Because at the end of the day she makes a joke of being Asian. If you want to know why racism is so normalized in the US, it’s because of people like her and how she portrays Asian people in her media. It’s disrespectful ‘

The actress sparked a backlash last year when she demanded that episodes of sitcom 30 Rock, which she wrote and produced on, be removed from streaming platforms via the use of blackface

She wrote a letter to the platforms the comedy is a part of via Vulture, stating, “As we strive to get the job done and do the racing better in America, we believe these episodes are causing actors with racially changing Make-up shows are best withdrawn

“I now understand that” intent “is not a free pass for whites to use these images I apologize for the pain they caused

“In the future, no comedic child will have to stumble across these tropics and be stung by their ugliness. I thank NBCUniversal for fulfilling this request’

Following this, however, many encouraged her not to include jokes aimed at the Asian community in her shows and films.

On Twitter, an unimpressed fan said: “If only Tina Fey could pull the part of her brain that thought that at 21st Century blackface episodes would be needed

“Tina Fey also has a damned track record when it comes to portraying Asians, especially women,” agreed another

“Mean Girls, Sisters, 30 Rock” – the underlying “joke” is that they are hyper-sexual and looking for green cards / can’t speak English ’

“I suspect Tina Fey has never spoken to an Asian in her life,” said one Twitter user

“Racism is what makes Tina Fey special. She makes an Asian joke in every movie she’s made and doesn’t make me start with the Middle Eastern movie she made,” suggested one trailer before
