This week we’re looking back at some of Sam Armytage’s best moments from her time co-hosting Sunrise ahead of her farewell show Thursday

In 2013, she showed off her skills as a singer by pulling out Dusty Springfield’s I Just Don’t Know What To Do during a hilarious karaoke segment

Sam announced on Monday that after eight years she would be leaving the Channel 7 breakfast show to spend more time with the family, telling viewers, “It is time for the sun to be my time Sunrise goes down ”

“I have always been very brave and fearless in my life and career, and this decision is no different,” she said in an emotional address

“As many of you know, the last six months of my personal life have been very bittersweet, some parts have been very happy and some have been very, very sad,” she said

“And I want to get out of this public world for a while and take some time and calm things down, live a little slow and spend some time with my precious family, husband and banjo

“I am quitting this job at a time of my choosing and in addition to the reviews that not many people on TV can say they do

“My mother always said to me,” Work your life often and ruthlessly, it is your masterpiece after all, “added Armytage,

“This is one chapter, it is not the whole story, and I have a few days to say goodbye to you all for now”

Armytage then thanked Chairman Kerry Stokes, Executive Producer of Sunrise, Michael Pell, and “the entire crew who get up so early every day and put together this wonderful show”

She will remain a valued part of the network and new projects will be announced at a later date

David Koch, co-host of Sunrise, said that since Sam came to Sunrise, she has been “the rock of the program and has always led from the beginning”

“Sam’s humor, work ethic and the team’s first values have all inspired us,” he said in a statement

“But now it is time for Sam to put himself and Rich first, and we couldn’t be happier for both of us or better support them””

James Warburton, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Seven West Media, said while it was sad to see her leave, he fully understood and supported her decision to step back for a while and focus on her family

“Sam has been a key part of the Seven team for nearly two decades, including eight fantastic years co-hosting Australia’s number 1 breakfast show,” he said

“We wish Sam all the best for her break and look forward to announcing some exciting new projects for her in late 2021 and through 2022”

Network news and public affairs director Craig McPherson said Armytage was “a breath of fresh air to wake up to for eight years.”

“Sam has carved her way through thousands of hours of news, topics, debate, a strange argument or two, and a huge dose of humor in her very own way,” he said

“Sam can be very proud of what she has accomplished and we are all looking forward to her next venture on Seven’s screens”

Sunrise Executive Producer Michael Pell added that her impact on the television landscape “cannot be overstated”

“Her warm and sincere manner, combined with her journalistic excellence, made her a winner with viewers,” he said

“There really isn’t anyone like her. But all good things have to end and after Sam has been such an important part of so many lives for years, it’s time for Sam to focus on her own. She goes to the top, with Sunrise on top I think it’s her sense of humor that I’ll miss the most ”

Samantha will co-host her final issue of Sunrise on Thursday and viewers can attend a well-deserved farewell party on the air this week

She told viewers that her mother Libby was “seriously ill” because she had an autoimmune disease that had caused heart failure while her father Mac had a stroke

While Sam’s father was recovering and being discharged from the hospital, her mother sadly passed away shortly after the Melbourne Cup last November

In December, Armytage tied the knot with her partner, horse breeder Richard Lavender, during an intimate ceremony

The ceremony took place on Richard’s estate in the scenic southern highlands of New South Wales and was attended by a small group of the happy couple’s closest family and friends
