Ben Simmons had a triple-double, a three-pointer and showed one of his best defensive displays of the season to Giannis Antetokounmpo nightmares, but the Milwaukee Bucks superstar got the final laugh in an overtime win over Simmons’ Philadelphia 76ers

At the first meeting of this season between the two top competitors of the Eastern Conference, the Bucks went out with 109 to 105 winners after a roller coaster ride in the regular season

Simmons had shut down the twice-reigning MVP for much of the game and kept him on an absurdly stingy four points in the first half, but the ‘Greek Freak’ exploded on a 7-0 run in overtime to win the game quit out of reach

After a formidable win over the Knicks yesterday, Philly stormed out of the blocks today to take a 14 point lead at halftime as Simmons put in an excellent defensive effort – including holding the bucks down to just 13 points in Milwaukee’s second quarter 31 points at halftime they were the second-lowest points in the half of the last five seasons, with the bucks shooting a miserable 267% at break

The Sixers – still without Joel Embiid due to injury – led by up to 19 points and looked towards victory before the Bucks struck back with a stormy second half, including a 13-2 run at the start of the last quarter

Philadelphia lost seven points but beat the Bucks 9-2 in the final 40 seconds, putting things into overtime with a late three-pointer from Furkan Korkmaz

But when things got into stoppage time, Antetokounmpo pulled out a personal 7-0 run to get the game to bed

Simmons delivered a strong block in recovery and a dunk behind the back in a quick transition to pull the lead back to three. But the dollars held up despite a late Simmons three-pointer

The Australian suppressed Antetokounmpo for much of the game and was only able to score 22 points in regular time – well below the superstar’s season average of 29

Antetokounmpo came into play with three triple doubles in a row when the Bucks came into the game with a winning streak of four games. He finished with 32 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists – but six turnovers

Simmons now had 13 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists, but seven turnovers from a 45-minute mammoth attempt

It comes after 76’s head coach Doc Rivers declared Simmons the “lock” for Defensive Player of the Year

“Joel Embiid for MVP, but Ben Simmons is a suspension for Defensive Player of the Year,” Rivers said before the Knicks game. “He guards every position, He’s everywhere He literally swallows players sometimes”

Simmons wasn’t on his most offensive side, finishing the game 6-16 after being silent for most of the game after the first quarter

But the Aussie was also unlucky enough to tackle an offensive foul when putting down that Monster Dunk:

Simmon’s formidable defensive efforts received high praise – but his offensive fights for much of the game were shared by fans
