The Toronto Maple Leafs have taken over goalkeeper Veini Vehviläinen from the Columbus Blue Jackets for defender Mikko Lehtonen

The 24-year-old Vehviläinen has played in one game for the Blue Jackets this season – his NHL debut on Nov. He also qualified for a competition with the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL and 13 with JyP Jyvaskyla in the Finnish Liiga in 2020-21, where he went 3-7-3 with a 3-7-318 goals against the average and a 890 percent save

The native Finn from Jyvaskyla was in the sixth round in 2018 (173) of the Blue Jackets and stopped the monsters in 33 games during the 2019-20 AHL season (10-18-4, 2) 76 GAA, 901 SV%)

The 27-year-old Lehtonen signed a one-year deal with the Maple Leafs in the off-season and had three assists in nine games for Toronto this season.The Turku-born Turku will join the taxi team after receiving a work visa and clearing the quarantine Join Blue Jackets

Before signing in Toronto last May, Lehtonen scored a 17-goal, 49-point season in 60 games with Jokerit in 2019-20, which the KHL defenders led this season
