‘She was supposed to be part of a movie we made late last summer, and she was on chemotherapy at the time, and she was so insistent that she wanted to come and film her, and she obviously looked very different and wanted to fly her helicopter to North Wales to be with us

“That’s the kind of person she was. She was a force of nature, she gave power, she was amazingly fun, just a force of energy, and we’ll miss her terribly, as will the automotive world ‘

The German race track Nürburgring announced the news of Sabine’s death on Wednesday morning and said: “The Nürburgring has lost its most famous female racing driver

“Sabine Schmitz passed away much too early after a long illness. We will miss her and her cheerful manner. Rest in peace, Sabine! “

She was known in Germany for driving passengers in a BMW M5 on the legendary Nürburgring race track and was nicknamed “the world’s fastest taxi driver”
