Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew is confident Matt Rowell’s knee injury is “nothing too severe” after dropping the young gun just a quarter of his AFL comeback

The raging Rising Star favorite injured his left knee after being attacked by the new Eagle Zac Langdon in the middle of the inaugural season at Optus Stadium

The No. 1 pull ax from 2019 was driven forward into the lawn in the fixed device, winced in immediate pain and went straight into the rooms

Rowell was changed at fifteen minutes and quickly put in a knee brace and crutches

But Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew tried to downplay the severity of the injury, speculating that he could be used for another extended sideline

“It’s not ‘seriously serious’, but it’s serious enough to – as far as we can tell – keep him off for a couple of weeks,” Dew said at halftime

The injury is a cruel blow to the youngster, who took the AFL by storm with three consecutive Brownlow games by three votes at the start of his debut season last year before his campaign ended prematurely with a shoulder injury

Rowell entered the weekend as an inexpensive $ 1 prize, 30 favorites to be crowned Rising Star this year

Nick Holman came as a medical replacement at the beginning of the second term

If the 19-year-old injured his PCL, early signs suggest he would need six weeks in braces

Eagles fans gave Rowell a warm welcome when he returned to the border to watch his third term
