EDMONTON – Alberta’s opposition NDP urges Secretary of State for Local Affairs, Tracy Allard, to step down on reports she vacationed in Hawaii despite public health recommendations against unnecessary travel.

NDP community affairs critic Joe Ceci says Allard took a vacation while Albertans sat in their homes during the vacation to avoid COVID-19

CBC News reports that Allard was on family vacation in Hawaii this month and returned home on Wednesday

Allard’s press officer and a spokeswoman for Prime Minister Jason Kenney did not respond to calls or emails asking for comment

The NDP says the United Conservative government should release how many of its caucus members have left the country since the Alberta legislature rose earlier this month

Ceci notes that Allard is responsible for emergency management and her Deputy Minister is responsible for introducing the COVID-19 vaccine in the province

“She went on vacation while Albertans sat in their homes during the vacation, followed strict public health regulations and separated from family and friends while they waited for the vaccine,” Ceci said Thursday in a press release

“This goes beyond being a member of the government committee or a member of the government cabinet – Minister Allard is responsible for emergency management. She made an unforgivable mistake and must resign immediately”
