The Vancouver Canucks National Hockey League (NHL) team has been hit by a severe Covid-19 outbreak There are currently 14 players and three coaches on the Covid-19 protocol list for the NHL evening

The outbreak is the biggest to hit not only an NHL team this season, but also a team in major professional sports in North America British Columbia, where the team is based, currently has a major outbreak of the Brazilian P.1 Covid-19 and recently announced new measures to contain the rising number of cases, including the closure of the legendary Whistler Blackcomb ski area

The team last met on 24 March and his games after an announcement by Canucks on Twitter on March 1 April to at least the 8th Postponed April This announcement came when only 2 players and a coach were added to the list of NHL Covid-19 protocols The new list, released today (Saturday, April 3) April), includes several high-ranking players, including Captain Bo Horvat

Confusingly, a player doesn’t have to test positive for Covid-19 to be included on the NHL’s COVID protocol list, and the NHL has been scrutinizing the other reasons players might be listed on It has yet to be confirmed how many of the players and coaches listed actually have Covid-19, however multiple sources have reported the team has cases and at least some of them are the P1 coronavirus variant that wreaked havoc in hard-hit Brazil

Another, currently unconfirmed report from TSN broadcaster Darren Dreger found that some of the players are very sickâ ????

P1 is a variant of particular concern with some evidence that it may be more transmissible and that it has some resistance to antibodies raised against previous Covid-19 infection with conventional variants, the CDC states:

British Columbia has identified nearly 900 cases of P1 variant in just the last week, and the numbers keep growing. At the time of writing, the Vancouver Canucks have made no further public statements about the outbreak other than adding players to the NHL’s Covid Protocol list
