Dylan Cozens’ parents couldn’t be more proud of their son as the former Lethbridge Hurricanes captain continues to impress on and off the ice at the IIHF Junior Ice Hockey World Championship in Edmonton

Here, his father built an outdoor ice rink to practice the game he loves and where he returns home whenever he can

COVID-19 made it impossible to see Dylan at this year’s tournament “Of course it would have been amazing to be in Edmonton, but the world is a different place and it has affected everyone in so many ways,” said mom Sue Cozens. p>

“We’re just really happy that Dylan can be a part of it, and we can watch him and Team Canada take part in such a great event”

Last year the proud parents were in Ostrava, Czech Republic to see Dylan help Team Canada win gold. “We’re just as stressed,” Mike said of this year’s television

In the first five games he scored seven goals and six assists and leads Canada in the standings. In combination with 22 points from the 2020 and 2021 tournament, he is sixth of all time for Canada ahead of John Tavares (20) and behind Jason Allison (24))

Cozens has also taken on a leadership role after Captain Kirby Dach was ousted from office with an injury

“It’s so great to see. It’s what we enjoy most when we look at it,” said Mike

“It doesn’t seem like that long ago he was a little guy who skated on our garden rink,” said Sue

“It’s amazing to see him on screen even more than being interviewed, than playing hockey. It’s wonderful and makes us so proud”

While Cozens is focused on helping Team Canada win gold, it will soon move into the upcoming NHL season

He plans to go straight to Buffalo after the tournament, where he wants to secure a spot on the Sabers list

Cozens was drafted to seventh overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He will join the Sabers for their second inter-squad game on Nov. January connect

While Lethbridge fans may have seen the last of Cozens in a Hurricanes jersey, he’s certainly poised to make a huge impact on the ice hockey world in the years to come

His parents say they can never thank the people who helped him with this

“Lethbridge has become a home away from home for Dylan and in some ways for us,” said Sue. “We are very close to his Billet family and we cannot thank them enough and we cannot thank them enough the Lethbridge Hurricanes organization. It was a great place for Dylan and His DevelopmentWe are so glad he got drafted and spent his junior hockey years there because it was just great. ”

“And a massive role in Dylan’s development and the opportunities he has now, so we’re very, very grateful,” he said
