RCMP and members of the Alberta Health Service were on site Wednesday morning at GraceLife Church west of Edmonton to temporarily “close” the facility Fences have been erected around the building

The police were at Spruce Grove-Kirchem before 8am. Crews could be seen putting up fences around the perimeter of the building and blocking several parking spaces

“Alberta Health Services has physically closed GraceLife Church and prevented access to the building until GLC can demonstrate its ability to comply with Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) restrictions,” AHS said in a statement Wednesday morning

According to Alberta public health regulations, face masks are mandatory and churches are limited to 15 percent of the capacity of the Fire Act

On Easter weekend the GraceLife Church parking lot was full again on Good Friday and Easter Sunday

AHS said Wednesday that the health agency has been trying for “several months” to “work with GLC to address ongoing public health concerns at the site”

“GLC has chosen not to adhere to these mandatory restrictions, nor have they attempted to work with AHS to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission,” said AHS

RCMP and AHS inspectors have appeared on church grounds several times during the service to ensure public health measures are being followed In the past few weeks officials have said, “The Church has failed to comply with restrictions”

On 28 On March 23, an AHS spokesman said that public health environmental inspectors were denied church access while stating that “there appear to be violations of current Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) restrictions on capacity, physical distancing and masking ”

The Church, along with Pastor James Coates, will appear in court in May. They will be charged with violating measures of the Public Health Act relating to capacity limits, physical distancing and masking

Coates was born on Jan. Released from prison on March 23 after breaking bail to stop holding non-compliant services. He pleaded guilty and was fined May 1$ 500 occupied

AHS said that between 10 July 2020 and the 6 AHS inspectors have received 105 complaints from the public about GraceLife Church since April 10, 2021 July 18 site inspections were conducted and “violations were found on each visit,” AHS said

In a press release sent on Wednesday, the judicial center representing Coates said it was “in the process of filing a subpoena to appeal to Alberta’s chief medical officer, Dr Deena Hinshaw is said to be at the trial of Pastor Coates on Jan. May 2021 testify ”

COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Alberta, and AHS said there was an urgent need to minimize the spread to protect all Albertans
