NEW YORK – Rookie of the Year Ja Morant walked out in a wheelchair Monday night after sprained his left ankle in the first half of the Memphis Grizzlies game in Brooklyn

Morant jumped to block a shot by Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot and appeared to land on the net striker’s foot. He immediately jumped off the floor in pain and was rolled backwards without putting any weight on his foot

The Grizzlies announced that Morant would not be returning to the game. In the second half, he sat on the bench with his teammate in a hiking boot

Morant got off to a strong start to his second season, scoring the best 44 points of his career at the season opener and followed with 28 more in his second game
