BARRIE, ONT – –
Ontario pulls the “emergency brake” on Simcoe Muskoka and puts the region back in the red zone after less than two weeks

The chief physician of the region, Dr Charles Gardner said earlier this week that rising cases of COVID-19 and the B117 variants were the reason for him to apply the brakes when reopening

The provincial government has created the “emergency brake” measure, with which a region can be blocked immediately if the cases increase

The province moved Simcoe Muskoka back to the red zone in February 16, at the time Gardner said he would have preferred if the stay at home order had remained in place, warning, “We must be ready in the near future Shut down again in the future””

On Tuesday, he said the region’s trajectory “is not going in the right direction” after a 30 percent increase in weekly cases

Gardner said the weekly incidence rate last week came closest to that of the province for the first time since last summer, adding the region is typically “half that of the province” “

The region’s top doctor attributed most of the cases to household clusters, saying that people going to work and social interactions created a cycle of transmission

Public health reported a slight decrease in weekly cases on Friday but listed new cases in the UK According to the health unit, 16 new tests tested positive for worrying variants on Friday – that is 290 that will now require further testing to confirm p>

In-person shopping is permitted for retail stores, but there are stricter capacity limits at this stage

Major stores like grocery stores and pharmacies can provide up to 50 percent capacity, while all other stores, including wholesalers, liquor stores, hardware stores, and garden centers, are capped at 25 percent

In the gray area, 10 people can congregate outdoors but must remain socially distant and masks are highly recommended
