The pacemaker in Sri Lanka ended lunch 2 to 25 when Mayers and Brathwaite put together a 71-run stand for the second wicket

West Indies 86 for 2 (Mayers 49 *, Brathwait 26 *, Lakmal 2-25) against Sri Lanka at lunch

Suranga Lakmal removed John Campbell and Nkrumah Bonner during an opening spell of sublime accuracy to have the opponent 15 to 2 in the first half hour of play. But then Kyle Mayers happened upon 49 out of 58 to West Indies by lunch for 2 to 86 while Kraigg Brathwaite fought determinedly on the other end to 26 of 76

On a track that was far less seam-friendly than the field for the first game, and after Sri Lanka settled on the first bowl, they would almost certainly have been hoping for three breakthroughs in the first session – the field should have changed enforcing the day that they didn’t land a third layoff was part of luck, part of their own fault Dimuth Karunaratne may have had too little in the cordon while Lakmal was in operation, and the ball occasionally whizzed through the free third or fourth slip / p>

The most obvious mistake, however, was when Pathum dropped Nissanka Mayers to 12 in Lakmal’s seventh game (he threw 10 at a trot to start the innings) The chance wasn’t exactly easy – Nissanka had to dive hard to the right – but not particularly difficult either

Mayers enjoyed great fortunes, however, sliding the ball past his stump at least twice, letting each of the sailors hit his outside edge, trying to knock his way out of trouble, sometimes not convincing.Even so, there were some muscular urges, and Mayers struggled too good against Lasith Embuldeniya, who was on the hunt for wickets and did not settle into a rhythm during this session

Prior to Mayers’ Blitz, Lakmal had delivered six consecutive girls to start the test, and in them claimed those two wickets, Campbell classically fell on the last ball of Lakmal’s fourth past after facing balls that got into him Swung in – a left one – he pushed a delivery that held his line and was caught by the wicketkeeper for five next, a lead-free Nkrumah Bonner attempted to defend a delivery from behind and only managed to get the ball towards his stumps play to catch a duck

While all of this was happening, and later, while Mayers attacked, Brathwaite was content to defend often and often leave without facing any significant threats to his wicket. His partnership with Mayers was worth 71 balls out of 110; Brathwaite’s contribution was 18 out of 52
