Juventus lost further ground to Serie A leaders AC Milan after a 1-0 defeat by Napoli on Saturday evening
Mattijs De Ligt, Juan Cuadrado, Rodrigo Bentancur and Federico Bernardeschi competed after Juve’s victory against AS Roma, with Victor Osimhen and Lorenzo Insigne being drafted for Napoli
Juventus had the chance to take the lead early after a loose ball from a tackle in the six-yard area, but Bernardeschi hastily threw off the close combat attempt
The old lady fell back after half an hour when Insigne stabbed a kick in the top corner after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) punished Giorgio Chiellini for a foul on Amir Rrahmani
Napoli successfully kept the game balanced as the first half progressed, while Juve slowly pushed to get back into the competition
Andrea Pirlo’s team changed shortly after half-time through Alex Sandro, who was introduced for Cuadrado, while Napoli remained unchanged
Juventus almost leveled after a loose ball found Cristiano Ronaldo in the center of the penalty area, but Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret wisely saved
Meret was back before the closing stages when he instinctively took a powerful free kick from Federico Chiesa from the top of the field from the top corner of the net
Juve had the ball in the net when Alvaro Morata scored a cutback in the area behind Meret, who was not offside
Gennaro Gattuso’s side struggled late to contain the Bianconeri when Meret Morata’s low shot on the turn parried before choking off a Ronaldo header to lead his side to victory
