It wasn’t a clean win for the Calgary Flames, but they will bring home all the wins they can get

The perfect performance by Flames goalkeeper Jacob Markstrom against players who weren’t named Nikolaj Ehlers would prove to be just enough for his team as a late power play goal gave the home team a 3-2 win

For the most part, the referees let the two teams play and only demanded three minor penalties in the first 57 minutes. But after Nathan Beaulieu was whistled for a penalty shoot-out late in the game, Elias Lindholm only scored 1:42 in the third half and was able to assert himself as the winner of the game

It’s the first time this season that the Jets haven’t scored at least one point in their five meetings against Calgary

“I thought we played a pretty good game,” said Jets striker Andrew Copp, “I don’t think we clicked all of the cylinders in any way

“We’re going to bounce back, a tough way to lose, but I don’t want this to detract from who we can be and what we think we can build on in the good bumps in the game”

In his first game with his new team, Pierre-Luc Dubois finished the competition with a minus one score and a single goal in 13:10 Ice Age.It was his first game since 21 January

“First game in twenty days,” Dubois said. “I think legs, hands, head – you’re trying to get it all back. And I thought as the game went on I got some things back, but I can play a lot better ”

Dubois started the game by centering a number of Kyle Connor and Trevor Lewis. But Maurice juggled his lines in the second period, trading Mason Appleton for Lewis

“It’s been a long time since he played a game but there were a lot of good things afterwards,” said Maurice. “A lot of movement into the net, some physicality, some really nice hands, so it was a good first for him”

With four even lines, Mark Scheifele was the Jets’ only striker with over 20 minutes of ice time. He picked up an assist to extend his series of points to four games

Flame captain Mark Giordano hit both ends of the ice early in the game – he hit a post in one shift and blocked one shot with one shot in the next, shattering his foot protection

The Flames and Jets would trade unsuccessful power games early on, but neither team would find the net in the first phase – a Calgary led with 11:10 shots

After Sean Monahan was pitted for a hooking penalty at the beginning of the second frame, the Jets’ power play hit first

Ehlers used some space on the left boards and wired a wrist shot over the fold and over the left shoulder of Markstrom

for his seventh goal of the year

Andrew Mangiapane tied things up just 66 seconds later when a puck landed on Mikael Backlund’s stick, who tossed the puck into the net before his linemate knocked him past Connor Hellebuyck

Winkler’s Byron Froese threw a Juuso Valimaki point shot at 13:34 to give the Flames a 2-1 lead

Ehlers’ second game only two minutes later tied the 2-2 – and buried a pass from Scheifele in a hurry

A third period, which went back and forth, took a turn in the Flames’ favor, and it was a little over two minutes before Beaulieu was sent off for detaining Johnny Gaudreau of the Flames

After some nice passes in the jet zone, Lindholms wrist bounced off a leg for the game winner in front of Hellebuyck

Maurice also made another adjustment to his forward lines when Adam Lowry switched to Paul Stastny and Blake Wheeler for a few shifts at the end of the third round

Dubois looked at home on both ends of the ice in front of the net – with timely breakdown in the defensive zone and strong moves to the top of the fold in front of Markstrom

“For a man who hasn’t played in three weeks, he looks pretty good out there,” said Ehlers. “We’re trying to talk to him as much as possible and bring him up to date”

Josh Morrissey played his 300th Career game in his hometown and led the Jets with 26:51 in the Ice Age

The Jets have now drawn a total of seven out of ten possible points from their five meetings with the flames

The two sides won’t see each other for almost two months – their next meeting will be on May 26th March in the Saddledome held

Calgary travels to Vancouver for the third time this season on Thursday evening to compete against the Canucks, while Winnipeg welcomes the final Ottawa Senators that evening at Bell MTS Place

Kelly Moore will host the pre-game show on 680 CJOB at 5:00 p.m. and Jamie Thomas and Paul Edmonds got the call of the game at 7:00 p.m.
