TORONTO –
All-male Upper Canada College in Toronto says it is putting all classes online for at least a week and is urging its student body to take COVID-19 tests after six cases have been reported in the past six days

The elite private school with more than 1100 students previously announced they were aware of six cases of COVID-19 in primary and secondary school students and are now taking steps to reduce the risk of further transmission

“As a precautionary measure to protect students, staff and the wider community, UCC has made a voluntary decision to switch to a distance learning plan by next week,” the school told CP24. “The school has also encouraged students, families and staff to take part in a voluntary testing program to take part, which is carried out by the hospital for sick children ”

The school says Toronto Public Health (TPH) has announced there is no evidence of intra-school transmission of the virus

“There have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the school as a result of the transmission at UCC, nor has TPH recommended closing UCC due to an outbreak or any other reason”
