Ekholm sat down for Foreign Trade Minister Anna Hallberg on a series of telephone messages to review an order by the Swedish Post and Telecommunications Authority (PTS) that operators would remove Chinese companies from the existing infrastructure for 5G frequencies by January 2025 the Swedish newspaper reported

Hallberg told DN that she had no contact with PTS and would never step in as minister and influence the decisions of individual authorities. She added that she had never met with Ekholm

The exchange follows comments from Jacob Wallenberg, vice chairman of Ericsson’s board of directors, who said, “stopping Huawei is definitely not good,” according to an interview in the same newspaper in December 25

The Swedish telecom giant generates around 10% of its sales in China and is Huawei’s biggest rival in the mobile phone market, China warned Swedish companies could have “negative effects” from the ban if the decision is not reversed Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said the government stood by the authority’s assessment

The ban was based on an assessment by the Swedish police and military authorities, who concluded that the Chinese state’s influence on the private sector “creates strong incentives for privately owned companies, in line with state and national goals Communist Party strategies to act ”
