css-14iz86j-BoldText {font-weight: bold;} Comedian Bobby Ball, who died after a positive Covid-19 test, was “larger than life, as you saw on television “said his family

The actor had appeared in several sitcoms including Not Going Out, Last of the Summer Wine and Benidorm and died on Thursday at the age of 76 in Blackpool

He was one half of the comedy duo Cannon and Ball alongside his longtime friend and colleague Tommy Cannon

Cannon and Ball – whose real names are Thomas Derbyshire and Robert Harper – began as a comic book on the cabaret circuit in the north of England

They were some of TV’s biggest stars with their own Saturday night show on ITV in the 1980s until times and tastes changed

Robert said: “He looked like a cartoon – he wasn’t good at doing your math homework, but he was larger than life like you saw on TV

His brother Darren paid tribute to NHS staff who treated his father: “They were amazing, the care he received was in good hands”

“The tributes paid to him since his death have been heartbreaking,” said Robert, adding: “It was incredible”

Born in Oldham, Greater Manchester, January 28, 1944, Ball met his comedy partner Cannon while working in a factory as a welder

Cannon and Ball appeared together on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! in 2005, and were jointly the sixth to be voted

In his later years, Ball appeared in several sitcoms, including Mount Pleasant and The Cockfields and most recently, the BBC sitcom One Not Going Out
