GOGGLEBOX has entertained viewers with its group of fun and friendly families since 2013 – but not all of them made it through the show

While the success of Channel 4 has made stars like Scarlett Moffatt and the Malone family, two families have been forced to leave our screens

Gogglebox – which shows families from across the country reacting to the most popular TV shows of the time – has had many characters over the years

Fans love Steph and Dom and even mourned the late Leon and June Bernicoff, who died in 2018 and 2020 respectively

The Michaels were one of the show’s early families when it debuted in 2013

The family included Father Andrew, his wife Carolyne and two of their children, his daughter Alex and his son Louis

They were then joined by another daughter Catheryne while the other son Pascal is not on the show

However, they were kicked from the show in December 2014 due to Andrew’s ambition to become a UKIP MP in the 2015 general election.

Channel 4 ruled that a family with a seat in politics couldn’t be on the show – that’s why it launched in December 2014

A spokesperson said at the time: “It is with great regret that the Michaels are no longer on the show

“Unfortunately, any Gogglebox cast member who becomes a candidate for a political party will have to withdraw from their involvement in Gogglebox

“They have been great contributors to Gogglebox and we are very grateful for everything they have given to the show”

The family had five days to choose politics or show – and they chose politics

Carolyne even admitted that it was “too painful” to watch the show when they weren’t involved and desperately wanted to come back

Andrew told The Sun at the time: “I have a responsibility to keep my family happy after they supported me last fall. It was a big deal for us

“I have now resigned from my official position of potential candidate I was happy to resign to get Gogglebox back”

George Gilbey and his mother Linda and stepfather Pete McGarry were viewers’ favorites when they debuted in the second series

However, the Essex family was launched in August 2014 when George walked into the Big Brother house

The family confirmed the news on Twitter, saying: “It is true that we will not be on the next Gogglebox series. We had a great time filming with them and wish the cast and crew the best of luck.

Gogglebox producer Chantal Boyle says having family for Round 4 “won’t work” after he’s in Big Brother’s house

“It’s all about the money They are pretty strapped for cash so you can see why they would take the offer to go to Big Brother

“But we can’t have them in the new Gogglebox series,” she told the Mirror at the time

After finishing fourth in Big Brother, he and his family returned to Gogglebox in 2016
