Celtic turned down an offer from Inter Milan in which Odsonne Edouard took out a loan with an option to buy, according to a report

The Frenchman was heavily linked to a move from Celtic Park last summer and Inter Milan wanted him to replace Romelu Lukaku

Edouard would be there to offer the Belgian support and challenge him for a first-team spot, but Celtic was not ready to accept the offer

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Inter made the offer in the final days of the transfer window that Edouard would have been loaned and given an option to buy this summer

Celtic could have gotten good money for him this year, but would have left it short last summer and would not have been well received by the supporters or then by boss Neil Lennon

Romano also claims Edouard had other options but decided to stay in Glasgow for another year and will be looking for a new club this summer

With the Frenchman out of a contract next summer, many expected him to leave Celtic in the next transfer window unless a new manager can persuade him to sign a new deal

But Romano told GiveMeSport: “He was close to leaving Celtic last summer He had really important offers, he decided to stay but now it’s time to choose a new club”

“I was told that Inter saw Edouard as an opportunity and a backup option for Lukaku for the last few days of the last summer window”

“That was impossible because Celtic wanted a permanent deal and they offered a loan with an option to buy. Roma are also interested in him”
