Danny Simpson could be handed a deal by the end of the campaign on Wednesday in Sheffield

The veteran defender, who won a Premier League medal from his time at Leicester City, met with the owls in court earlier this week

Simpson, whose last club was Huddersfield Town, played an hour of an U23 game on Monday

Wednesday manager Darren Moore confirmed after the Terriers’ draw last night that 34-year-old Simpson will be staying in Middlewood for the next few days before a decision is made

He said, “We’ll look at it with Danny for the next few days and see how it goes

“It is really good that he wants to come here with his desire and experience, but there are still a few kilometers so we can see how it develops”

When asked earlier in the week how Simpson was doing while sailing, Moore added, “He looked okay. He had to blow off some cobwebs”

Steven Chicken, the author of The Yorkshire Live Terrier, saw a lot of Simpson during his time in West Yorkshire last season

As he spoke on our Facebook live video chat, he ran the rule over the full-back and wondered if he would be suitable to help the owls in their relegation battle

“Right-back was a problem position in town which is why they brought him in,” said Chicken

“Florent Hadergjonaj was very attacking, but he kept leaving gaps behind and it caused chaos

“Simpson helped fix that and he had an immediate effect, stopping the goals and preventing the wingers from arriving on that side and pulling the center halves out

“He’s had a good first few months but he wasn’t fantastic the second half of the season I think the number of games really caught up with him because he didn’t have a proper preseason

“Throughout his spell he didn’t offer much for the future. He tried hard to get into the final third

“This may have been a fitness problem more than anything, but it offered nothing in the attack

“So if you’re looking for someone to fill the defensive void, they might be worth a look”

Simpson may have been scheduled for another run-out when the U-23-year-olds clash with Swansea on Friday, but the game has been postponed
