It’s New Years and stores like Aldi, Bargains and more are closed until tomorrow

Since the 1st January is a public holiday, many shops have shorter opening hours than usual, but some have decided to stay completely closed

In the lead up to the Christmas sales, Home Bargains announced that they would be closed on certain days during the holiday season to give employees more free time after a busy year for retail workers

Here are the shops that are closed on New Years Day and open again tomorrow with normal Saturday trading hours

Home Bargains stores will remain closed on Boxing Day so employees can “enjoy the break with loved ones,” and stores will also be closed on New Years Day

A Home Bargains spokesperson said, “We want to recognize how hard our employees have worked during difficult times and allow them to relax and really enjoy the break with loved ones

“Home Bargains is a family-run business and we understand the importance of being together more than ever at Christmas time. Our people work tirelessly to keep all of our businesses running smoothly no matter what In this way we would like to thank all employees for their hard work and commitment “

The budget supermarket gave employees free on Boxing Day and does so on New Year’s Day too. The bosses gave employees a bonus of 10% before Christmas

Aldi Managing Director Giles Hurley said, “This year has been a difficult year for so many, and our colleagues have worked tirelessly to ensure that the nation continues to have access to quality, affordable food

“This bonus is a gesture of our appreciation for our amazing Aldi colleagues who have shown incredible resilience and dedication over the course of 2020”

While the B&M stores stayed open on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, the store gives employees extra free time on New Years Day

B&M announced this on its Facebook page and said: “To give our colleagues a well-deserved break, all B&M stores will close on March 1st January #NewYearsDay closed

“We hope 2021 is a great year for all of our colleagues, their families and all B&M buyers”

Most major Marks and Spencer stores will close today, including Church Street in Liverpool and the Aintree store.Some smaller food hall stores are open for shorter hours, including the M&S stores in Speke, Edge Lane and West Derby on Queen’s Drive, which are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Some Tesco supermarkets are closed today, including stores in Formby, West Derby, Liverpool ONE and Woolton

Lidl stores are closed across England today, except for those inside the M25, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

John Lewis stores, including the Liverpool ONE store, are closed to customers on New Years Day
