When he wrote on Instagram, he described his symptoms as “incredible headaches, muscle and joint points, no appetite, nausea, dizziness [and] chronic fatigue like I didn’t know existed”

He updated the fans on New Years Eve, saying he and his wife were getting “a little bit stronger” every day and promising that he would be back to work in January

His illness is not believed to disrupt the production of Doctor Who The show has a scheduled Christmas hiatus and is not due to start filming again until later this month

In the 13th Series of the newly started sci-fi star, Whittaker will return as the extraterrestrial Time Lord alongside Mandip Gill, who returns as Yaz

In a statement, Bishop said: “If I could tell my younger self that one day I would be asked to board the Tardis, I would never have believed it

“Coming to Doctor Who is an absolute dream and I couldn’t ask for better company than Jodie and Mandip”

Program Director Chris Chibnall added, “It’s time for the next chapter of Doctor Who, and it starts with a man named Dan Oh, we’ve had to keep this one a secret for a long, long time

“Dan’s character was built for him and a pleasure to have on the Tardis”
