css-14iz86j-BoldText {font-weight: bold;} US President Donald Trump has asked Georgia’s top electoral officer to “find” enough votes to reject the election results
“I only want 11Find 780 votes, “said Trump to Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger css-yidnqd-InlineLink: link {color: # 3F3F42;} css-yidnqd-InlineLink: visited {color: # 696969;} css-yidnqd-InlineLink: Link, css -yidnqd-InlineLink: visited {font size: bolder; bottom margin: 1px fixed #BABABA; -webkit-text decoration: none; text decoration: none;} css-yidnqd-InlineLink: link: hover, css-yidnqd-InlineLink: visited: hover , css-yidnqd-InlineLink: link: focus, css-yidnqd-InlineLink: visited: focus {edge-bottom-color: current color; edge-bottom-width: 2px; color: # B80000;} @ supported (text underline -Offset: 025em) {css-yidnqd-InlineLink: Link, css-yidnqd-InlineLink: visited {margin-bottom: none; -webkit-text decoration: underline #BABABA; text decoration: underline #BABABA; -webkit-text decoration-thickness: 1px; Text decoration-thickness: 1px; -webkit-text-decoration-skip-ink: none; text-decoration-skip-ink: none; text-underline-offset: 025em;} css-yidnqd-InlineLink: link: hove r, css-yidnqd-InlineLink: visited: hover, css-yidnqd-InlineLink: link: focus, css-yidnqd-InlineLink: visited: focus {-webkit-text-decoration-color: currentcolor; text-decoration-color: currentcolor; -webkit-text-decoration-thickness: 2px; text-decoration-thickness: 2px; Color: # B80000;}} in a photo published by the Washington Post
Joe Biden won Georgia along with other swing states and won 306 votes for Trump’s 232 electoral college
Ahead of two decisive runoff elections in Georgia on Tuesday, it will be decided which party controls the Senate
Since the vote on 3 On November 11th, Mr. Trump made unfounded allegations of widespread election fraud
Congress is expected to announce the election results on March 6 Approve officially on January 1st, and Democrat Biden is due on Jan. January to be installed as president
All 10 living former US Defense Ministers have urged President Trump not to question the election results in an opinion piece for the Washington Post. The group also said he should not involve the military in voting disputes, an idea put forward by some supporters was discussed by Mr Trump
Excerpts from the phone call published by the Washington Post on Saturday can be heard as Mr Trump takes turns appeasing and pressuring Georgia’s foreign ministers
He insisted he won the Georgia election and told Mr. Raffensperger that “there is nothing wrong with saying that you recalculated”
Mr Raffensperger replied, “The challenge you have, Mr President, is that your information is wrong”
Later in the conference call, Mr. Trump said the rumor was that ballots had been destroyed and voting machines removed from Fulton County, the state – allegations rejected by Mr. Raffensperger’s attorney
“You know what they did and you don’t report it. This is a criminal offense. This cannot be allowed. This is a huge risk for you and for Ryan, your attorney,” Trump said
Then he asked for the additional 11780 votes – which gave him a total of 2473634 votes in the state would have given, one more than Mr.Biden, the 2nd473633 votes would have received
“You can investigate again, but again with people who want to find answers, not people who don’t want to find answers,” he said
“Mr. President, you have people who convey information and we have our people who convey information, and then it comes before the court and the court has to make a decision,” replied Mr. Raffensperger. “We have to get to our numbers stand, we believe our numbers are correct “
Mr Trump also warned Mr Raffensperger that if he refused to recalculate the election result, he would prevent Republicans from voting for the Senate in Tuesday’s runoff election
If the two Democratic candidates win, there will be an equal number of Republican and Democratic senators, and Kamala Harris, the vice-president-elect, will have the casting vote
Both President Trump and President-elect Biden will visit Georgia on Monday to camp ahead of the elections
On Sunday, Mr. Trump tweeted that Mr. Raffensperger had not given details of the scam the president claims “He has no idea!” The president tweeted
Mr. Raffensperger tweeted back: “Respectfully, President Trump: What you say is not true The truth will come out”
The only Democrat in the Georgian state election committee asked Mr. Raffensperger to open an investigation into the telephone call
“It is a crime to seek election fraud, and asking the secretary to change votes is a textbook definition of electoral fraud,” said David Worley, an Atlanta attorney, in an interview with the Washington Post. p>
Senate minority whip Dick Durbin, a Democrat, said Mr. Trump was “awkward and dangerous” and that his call to Mr. Raffensperger deserved “nothing less than a criminal investigation.”
Moderate Republican Adam Kinzinger also tweeted: “This is absolutely appalling. Anyone in Congress who is considering objecting to the election results cannot be done with a clear conscience”
In the final weeks of his presidency, Donald Trump fights for ways to hold on to power. His last act was to berate, beg and threaten Georgia’s Secretary of State to “find” the voices necessary to keep the state to bring in his column
It doesn’t matter that there is no credible evidence of substantial fraud. It doesn’t matter that Georgia counted the ballots, then counted them, and then counted them again and found no major differences. It doesn’t matter that the Republican-controlled state has confirmed its election results, and even if Georgia were to turn around, it would not be enough to re-elect Trump
However, the tenor of Trump’s call suggests that he’s not just maneuvering under the power of the president or trying to improve his fundraiser – he seems firmly convinced that he’s won and is ready to use any tools some of questionable legality to be used to persuade state officials to postpone the elections in his favor
The appeal recalls Trump’s “I want you to do us a favor” conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelinsky, in which he pressured a foreign leader and asked for political help
That contact led to Trump’s impeachment. The audacity of Trump’s call on Saturday could make it difficult for the president to garner political support for his cause
There is an evolving split in the Republican Party after eleven senators attended a Senate meeting on Jan. January had announced that they would not vote for the confirmation of Mr Biden’s election victory
Ted Cruz led the Senatorial Group and called for a 10 day delay to investigate unsubstantiated allegations of election fraud
Vice President Mike Pence, who will oversee the session as President of the Senate and declare Mr. Biden the winner, welcomed the move
He stopped repeating the fraud allegations, but his chief of staff said Mr. Pence shared what he called “millions of Americans’ concern about election fraud and irregularities”
Meanwhile, four Republican senators, including Mitt Romney, have signed a statement saying they will vote to confirm Mr Biden’s victory
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has already recognized Mr. Biden’s victory and has asked other Republicans not to object
A group of Republicans in the lower chamber of Congress, the House of Representatives, is also planning to challenge the election results
A majority in both houses must vote in order for an objection to be upheld. Republicans hold a majority in the Senate, but some of them have already said they will not dispute the results. Democrats are in the majority in the House
On Sunday, a new congress with sworn senators and representatives met for the first time. Democrat Nancy Pelosi was narrowly re-elected as speaker of the House of Representatives
