Scott McTominay’s goal in the first half of extra time got Manchester United into the FA Cup quarter-finals when they eliminated West Ham on Tuesday night

The United midfielder found the net for the third game in a row to take his goal of the season to seven in all competitions

The goal was well hit when McTominay got to the edge of the box before shooting home after a tee shot by Marcus Rashford

McTominay drove off with his teammates to celebrate before Rashford praised Scott for his “brilliant” finish. Bruno Fernandes was less orthodox in his praise and said, “Hey, this ball was for me, mother *****” suggesting that Rashford’s cut was meant for him instead

It was undoubtedly an ironic exchange, with Fernandes previously praising McTominay’s newfound scoring opportunity after his quick shot against Leeds United earlier in the season

Commenting on McTominay’s Instagram profile at the time, Fernandes said: “Football is really weird. Well done Scottynaldinho”

The couple clearly have a good relationship and McTominay praised Fernandes in March last year, just weeks after the Portugal international joined United from Sporting Lisbon

He said: “He is very demanding, he is a no10 who wants the ball, but he was a breath of fresh air. He has a personality and this football club needs that, it has that in abundance”
