The NBA G League is opening an investigation into security guard Jeremy Lin’s allegation that the athlete has been called “coronavirus” according to the court

As the number of violent attacks against Asian Americans grows across the country, Lin, an Asian-American player who currently plays for the Warriors’ G League, described the racism he was facing in a Facebook post on Thursday Has experienced over the course of his basketball career

“Being a 9-year-old NBA veteran doesn’t protect me from being called a ‘coronavirus’ on the court,” said Lin, the former New York Knicks star who played in China last season before attempting his NBA comeback with Santa Cruz Warriors

In the post, Lin shared several ways Asian Americans experience racism, especially as children and when exercising

“Something is changing in this generation of Asian Americans. We’re tired of being told we’re not experiencing racism, we’re tired of being told to keep our heads down and not cause problems. We’re sick of it that Asian American children grow up asking where they REALLY come from, that we make fun of our eyes, that we are objectified as exotic, or that we are told that we are inherently unattractive. We are fed up with the Hollywood stereotypes affect our psyche and limit who we think we are We are tired of being invisible, being mistaken for our coworkers, or saying that our struggles are not that real

“I want better for my elders who worked so hard and sacrificed so much to make a living here. I want better for my niece and nephew and future children. I want better for the next generation of Asian American Athletes than having to work so hard to just be “deceptively athletic” ”

When asked if he would support an investigation into Lin’s allegation, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said ahead of Friday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets that he would do so. He commended Lin for standing up against the wave of Had pronounced violence against Asian Americans

“I just got that Post seen, really powerful, “Kerr said.” I salute Jeremy for his words and I agree with his views on racism against the Asian American community. It’s just so ridiculous and obviously spawned by a lot of people – including our former president, as it is the coronavirus originating from China

“It’s just shocking I don’t know, I just can’t do anything with it But I can’t deal with racism in general I mean, we’re all flesh and blood We’re all just human Like (Gregg Popovich) once to me said, “We are all birth accidents” We were born, we come out as we are, and we have no say”We have a say in how people treat people, and it’s just shocking to me that we can treat people so badly because of the color of their skin,”
