Kevin McCarthy, the minority chairman of the house, condemned the crowd of Trump supporters who stormed the U. Capitol building on Wednesday in an act of defiance against Joe Biden, who won the 2020 presidential election

McCarthy, who was one of a large group of House Republicans who planned to object to the electoral college vote count over widely debunked allegations of large-scale electoral fraud, was featured on ABC news broadcast after his evacuation

“I condemn all of this; it is appalling,” said the Republican from Bakersfield. “This is un-American. This should never happen in our nation and whatever is happening now has to stop”

After thanking the Capitol Police, McCarthy said “we all” deserved to be blamed for what went on, apparently blaming the country’s political climate

“As a nation, I know we sit back and are appalled by what we see, but I want everyone to take a deep breath and understand that we all have a certain responsibility here,” he said. “It’s me no matter what we’ve ever said on facebook, what we’ve ever done to each other, we’re all americans, we have to stop we can’t agree, but it’s all i ever imagined that was possible in this nation thinking about how it went “

McCarthy also said he had “asked” Trump to contact the nation, and the president later posted a video statement urging followers to go home, but not after repeatedly going before Court had repeated dismissed allegations of electoral fraud
