Pizza owners in the New York area teamed up on National Pizza Day to give back to the communities

On Tuesday, February 9, the owners of the Jersey Pizza Boys and the nonprofit Slice Out Hunger called out restaurants in the area and others around the worldto donate at least 10 cakes to local animal shelters and soup kitchens

More than two dozen locations in the city are on the Pizza Across America program and at least seven are in New Jersey

Carmine Testa, of Jersey City’s famous Carmines Pizza Factory and co-founder of the program, says it’s an important way for restaurants to give back to the community, even though both are hit by the pandemic

“Sure, small businesses like pizzerias have a rough year, but too many people suffer more than we do I like the idea of celebrating National Pizza Day by helping others rather than wasting it by celebrating ourselves” Testa said in a statement

Food insecurity is a growing problem as the coronavirus pandemic leaves millions of Americans jobless, according to a survey published by the U last year Census Bureau, approximately 10% of Americans, 223 million reported that they sometimes or often did not have enough to eat between August and August 19 and 31, 2020
